Very little about modern dating is conducive to building a sense of self-worth, but being a girl on Tinder is at least good for one thing: you’re probably going to get quite a lot of likes. Casual Tinder users have known for years that if a girl consecutively likes a bunch of profiles, there’s a good chance that most of them will like her back.
Unfortunately, science has just proven that this may not be down to your Kylie Jenner Lip Kit and handheld selfie lamp upping your profile pic game.
SWIPER isn’t your regular date simulator, here you’ll manage your own destiny, make life-changing decisions and find your second half with.

And all of this new information will make for plenty of material for post-apocalyptic banter. Swipe Night brings responsive, streaming video to Tinder for the first time. But more important than its technical innovation, it offers a new way to use content to start conversations. We know Gen Z speaks in content, so we intentionally built an experience that is native to how they interact.
Dating is all about connection and conversation, and Swipe Night felt like a way to take that to the next level. Our hope is that it will encourage new, organic conversations based on a shared content experience. For members in the continental U. By Emily Webber For Mailonline. Women looking for romance on dating apps perceive are less likely to swipe right if their potential suitor is holding a cat, according to new research. The study, carried out by scientists at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, at Colorado State University, found that profile photos of men holding cats were seen as ‘less dateable’ and ‘less masculine’ by many women.
Men who held a confident pose and appeared alone in their profile pic were more likely to attract women, the survey found. In the study by Colorado State University, women were asked to choose which photo, of a year-old man, they preferred. The scientists said it was possible that the women defaulted to the notion that the man alone was a ‘dog person’ or more likely to date a ‘dog person’. Straight women, aged between 18 and 24, living in the US, were asked to rate the same man posing with and without a cat on his lap.
Photos of two men, both in their early twenties, were shown to the group. Both prospective dates had dark hair, wore a blue buttoned down shirt and were photographed against a white background while posing with and without the same tabby cat. After the pictures were displayed, they rated the men on attributes including perceived personality, masculinity, dateability and whether they would consider going out with the person for a short or long-term relationship.
The study found that women perceived the man holding the cat as ‘less masculine’ and ultimately ‘less datable’ in both the short and long term. Pet hates for daters: Another shot, of a year-old man with a similar blue buttoned-down shirt without a cat left prompted the same reaction.

Ever wish you knew exactly when the odds of getting into a real time message exchange on Tinder were at their highest? What is a Swipe Surge on Tinder? A Swipe Surge can last anywhere from a couple minutes to a few hours or more — it all depends on the user activity levels. According to the dating app, a number of variables will trigger a surge, including whenever the number of active Tinder users in your area is two times the normal average. The boost in activity typically coincides with big events, like a concert, festival, holiday, party, etc.
So far the app is only being tested in select markets, and users in those areas can generally expect a Tinder Swipe Surge notification every week or so.

By Sara Lighthall. Rebecca is your typical tech-savvy twentysomething. The app operates by giving users a stack of pictures to sift through; if one likes what they see, they swipe right over the image, if they do not, they swipe left and move on. While Tinder and other dating apps like Bumble , Hinge , and OkCupid pride themselves on making meaningful couplings, many young users reject the serious nature of the products and repurpose them as merely carefree entertainment.
As a long-term user, she claims that she has always used the app casually, never thinking that her soulmate could possibly be among those she matches with. Perched on her bed in her cozy light blue room in Santa Barbara, Emily makes a quick back and forth motion with her thumb, showing me how rapidly she flicks through profiles on the Tinder app, giving each user a two-second evaluation at most. Emily is not in the minority. While mindlessly using mobile dating products seems harmless to users, the misappropriation of the apps as a game can produce a slew of negative consequences.
